FHE Authentic Wines...

Our artisan wines are unlike large volume production wines. They are a natural biologically alive product that does not undergo any fining , winemaking additions or sterile filtration processes (except the whites with natural  residual fructose) prior to bottling. Hence they are vegan friendly!

We grow our wines under a predominantly organic viticulture regime. This means very intensive manual work with each vine from optimising the vine canopy’s exposure to sunlight and gentle breezes, to cutting off up to 50% or more of the set fruit annually in order to achieve high concentration of structure and richness to suit our cellar aging objectives.

Cellaring

Immediately from the time of grape harvest through to shipping direct to customers, FHE wines are in temperature controlled environments to preserve and protect their integrity. Our wines are professionally cellared by our Cellar Master John Gifford at 13 Celcius to keep them in pristine condition and encourage favourable bottle evolution for as long as it takes.

We recommend our customers maintain this care in order to optimise their FHE wine experience. There are simply no compromises to our approach to achieving true and authentic Ultra Premium wines with absolute integrity

Blood Creek 8

This wine is Frenchman's Hill Estate's proprietary blended red from the 8 vineyard. A unique blend of eight cépages, in order of importance to the blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Tannat, Viognier and Kolor. A unique combination on a unique site. A blend that should cellar well for decades. A wine from the depths of the spiritual heart of Waiheke Island.

Rock Earth Syrah

A combination of 6 class A selected Syrah clones from ENTAV, France. Each clone conferring different elements of harmony and richness to the wine. A unique combination on a unique site. This wine should cellar well for decades with the 13's, 14's and 15's drinking superbly and just starting to blossom at ten years old

Herculean

A combination of four class A selected Syrah clones from ENTAV, France. This western coastal cliff top slope has a glorious lie toward the sea some 60 metres below. Natural low yields, resulting from sometimes severe winds at the equinox, resulted in concentration and layered richness within the wines. The Herculean 2015 released in 2026 was hailed as "...one of NZ's great Syrah's." by David Walker-Bell of Winefolio.

Expatrius

A combination of four class A selected Syrah clones from ENTAV, France. This coastal headland site was altered in part by large machinery when an airstrip was formed. The Syrah vines planted upon it are effectively planted at 0.5m to 1.2m below the once natural ground surface level. A harsh struggle for the young vines but a profound impact on the eventual wines. The inaugural 2010 vintage from these vines is still superb at 16 years of age! Master sommelier Cameron Douglas judged Expatrius 2013 as NZ's best Syrah in 2023.

Advenus Sauvignon Blanc / Viognier

A combination of two Bordeaux selected Sauvignon clones blended with Viognier clone 400. Facing both southwest and east at the Expatriate vineyard these grapes get slowly very ripe whilst being tempered by the maritime breeze. The tannic apricot coloured tiny viognier grapes add structure and layered aromatics to this delicious wine. Served off ice in the summer months these aged whites literally give insight! They have aged superbly for a decade plus.
